Bandung, March 2026 – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) successfully organized the International CCS Summer School 2026, held on 2–7 March 2026 at the Auditorium of the East Campus Center, ITB. The Summer School is an intensive learning program that brings together students from various countries, researchers, and professionals to study the development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies.

This activity is part of the Equity Program (Enhancing Quality Education for International University Impacts and Recognition) – World Class University at ITB, which is financially supported by Kemendiktisaintek and LPDP.

The program featured Prof. Philip Ringrose, an internationally recognized CCS expert from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), as the lead instructor, delivering the majority of the lectures covering CCS concepts, technological developments, and global implementation practices.

In addition to Prof. Ringrose, several sessions were also delivered by ITB faculty members and CCS practitioners, including Prof. Sanggono Adisasmita, Dr. Mohammad Rachmat Sule, Anggit Raksajati, Ph.D., Aqsha, Ph.D., Triharyo Soesilo, Prof. Doddy Abdassah, Dr.-Ing. Calvin Lumban Gaol, Dr. Farah Mulyasari, Dr. Fernando Lawrens, Dr. Dona Sita Ambarsari, and Dr. C. B. Rasendra.

Prof. Philip Ringrose from NTNU Norway delivered the main lectures on the development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies.

The instructors delivered the course through classroom sessions and interactive discussions, allowing participants to engage directly in discussions on the technical, economic, and policy aspects of CCS development.

Dr. Mohammad Rachmat Sule, who served as the academic coordinator of the program, emphasized the importance of strengthening human resource capacity and encouraging international collaboration in the development of carbon capture and storage technologies.

Participants from various countries enthusiastically attended the learning sessions at the East Campus Center Auditorium, ITB.

In addition to the distinguished instructors, the CCS Summer School 2026 was also attended by student participants from various universities both in Indonesia and abroad. A total of 23 international participants joined the program from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Malaysia), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Malaysia), Universiti Sains Malaysia (Malaysia), Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Malaysia), Mongolia University of Science and Technology (Mongolia), Kyushu University (Japan), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway), Australian National University (Australia), Yonsei University (South Korea), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (India), and Inha University (South Korea).

Furthermore, five Indonesian students currently studying overseas and ten regular ITB students also participated in the program.

Several professionals were also interested in joining the program to gain insights into the latest developments of CCS/CCUS technologies in Indonesia and globally. A total of 15 professional participants from industry, government institutions, and universities outside ITB took part in the program. They came from Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar (Indonesia), PT Panca Amara Utama, INPEX Masela, PT Pertamina Riset Teknologi dan Inovasi (RTI), and the Ministry of Environment (KLH).

In addition to academic sessions, the program was also designed to strengthen relationships among participants. Iftar dinners were held every evening after the academic sessions, providing an opportunity for informal interaction and helping to foster an international atmosphere among students.

During one of the iftar events held at Labtek XVII, 3rd Floor, the Rector of ITB, the Dean of FTTM, the Dean of FTI, and their leadership teams attended the gathering. The Rector also had the opportunity to converse with several international participants and asked about their experiences during the CCS Summer School program at ITB.

International participants were also introduced to Indonesian culture. ITB students accompanied them to visit various places in Bandung, allowing them to experience local culture and explore the city.

Nicolai, one of the participants from NTNU Norway, expressed his appreciation for the program, “I just wanted to share my appreciation for this CCS course initiative. I have grown richer both in mind and heart, having gained many insights into CCS, but also from getting to know so many wonderful people from all around the world. Thank you very much Dr. Rachmat Sule and Prof. Philip for organizing and inviting me, and a special thank you to the local ITB students who took such great care of us and showed us new places every day.”

On the final day, participants joined an excursion to Mount Tangkuban Perahu, one of the most well-known natural attractions in West Java. The activity provided participants with an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Indonesia.

Another participant, Sameer from Australian National University, also highlighted that the program provided not only academic benefits but also valuable cultural experiences. “I had a great time in Indonesia and especially in Bandung. It was an amazing cultural exchange in getting to know people from different parts of the world. My special thanks to all the ITB students for making all of us international students feel welcomed and engaged throughout the Summer School program. Hoping that we all get to meet again soon.”

ITB students accompanied international participants to explore various cultural and tourism destinations in Bandung.

Through the International CCS Summer School 2026, ITB hopes to further strengthen Indonesia’s role in the development of CCS technologies and encourage international collaboration to support global decarbonization efforts and energy transition.
