AspenTech and ITB Collaborate on Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus Student Certification

AspenTech has established a collaboration with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) to organize a certification program for their process simulation software, Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus. The program “Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus Academic User Examination for Students” was held at Labtek X Building, ITB.

The certification exam took place on Monday, July 28, 2025, and was attended by 67 students from the undergraduate programs in Chemical Engineering and Bioenergy & Chemurgy Engineering, as well as the Master’s program in Chemical Engineering. To prepare for the exam, participants were given access to video tutorials and an online Awareness and Q&A Session on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

This certification aims to assess students’ abilities in using Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus to solve case studies rooted in chemical engineering principles. Those who pass the required threshold will receive a certificate and a globally recognized digital badge.

This initiative marks the first of its kind as part of the collaboration between AspenTech and ITB. If the outcomes are positive, the certification is planned to be held regularly, at least once a year.

The program offers various benefits for students, including the opportunity to validate their technical skills through formal certification. Those who pass can include the certificate and digital badge in their CVs as internationally acknowledged credentials. Furthermore, participants were exempted from the registration fee, which normally amounts to USD 150 each for Aspen Plus and HYSYS.

For ITB, this activity strengthens its long-standing academic partnership with AspenTech. The integration of cutting-edge simulation tools can be deepened within the curriculum, supported by access to training for faculty and free certification for students.

Meanwhile, AspenTech benefits from increased product visibility and adoption in academia, as well as expanded opportunities for strategic collaboration with ITB in both education and research.
